Bill is an accomplished attorney with significant experience in a wide variety of general and intellectual property legal areas. His expertise includes licensing, M & A and other transactional/ contractual matters, strategic and tactical patent program development and management, validity and infringement analyses, litigation management, employment law, counseling/training, legal staff and outside counsel management and development; product liability, environmental matters and other general legal responsibilities in the high tech (hardware and software) and medical device industries.

As Vice President, Associate General Counsel for Align Technology Inc., Bill was responsible for technology law and intellectual property matters including IP development, management, transactions, litigation, licensing, and training, primarily with respect to patents, trade secrets, and other intellectual property of an $800 million, rapidly growing international medical device company.

Bill also served as Deputy General Counsel for 3COM Corporation where he was responsible for management and development of all intellectual property related programs and projects (including value extraction, litigation, transactions, and IP development regarding patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and other IP) for $5 billion network and communications company with engineering/ product development sites throughout the world. Primary emphasis on: patent program development and enhancement; software and IP licensing; litigation management; management of IP Practice Group (up to 4 lawyers and 7 support staff) and high-value IP transactional matters including business development, licensing, and development agreements.

Bill was also Associate General Counsel & Intellectual Property Counsel for VLSI Technology, Inc., Corporate Vice President, Chief Legal Counsel, & Patent Counsel for Bourns Inc., and Patent Attorney, Patent Engineer, & Agent for General Electric.

Bill is deeply involved in the IP community. He's a member of the Patent, California, District of Columbia (inactive), and Supreme Bars. Bill frequently speaks on licensing & intellectual property throughout the country for ACC, LES, IP Counsel Cafe, PLI, WRG, and other organizations. He is active in local and national ACC activities and is trained in mediation.
